OVERVIEW
Ultherapy is an FDA-approved non-surgical ultrasound treatment for the face, neck and decolletage, that claims to lift, tighten and remove fine lines and wrinkles. The ultrasound treatment targets the deep layers of skin tissue "without disturbing the surface of the skin" though there may be some redness and swelling post treatment. The treatment is said to have a significant collagen-boosting effect. It is said to be particularly effective for those experiencing a jowl effect, and for general looseness and/or droop in the lower face and neck. It is also used to lift the brow.
WHAT TO EXPECT
After cleansing the skin, the practitioner applies ultrasound gel and places the treatment applicator against the area of the skin to be treated. Ultrasound imaging is used to determine the best placement of the treatment energy, The focused ultrasound energy is then delivered beneath the skin’s surface. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the treatment is quite painful but bearable, akin to a zapping, stinging sensation. The treatment lasts 30-90 minutes depending on area(s) to be treated.
BENEFITS
After the treatment, the body’s tissue repair process is said to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin, creating a lifting and tightening effect that is at the same time natural.
POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES
There is no downtime. Side effects are redness, swelling, tingling and/or tenderness to touch.
