SKIN FIRMING OVERVIEW
"Skin firming" (and quite often "..and tightening") is a term used to describe a positive aesthetic effect promised by some topical facial skincare creams and lotions. They contain ingredients - use of proteins and chemicals - that target different processes in the physiology behind the signs of ageing.
Two newer finds include:
* ChroNOline - an active ingredient and recent breakthrough in anti-ageing skin-firming creams. It works by stimulating the production of collagen and laminins (a structuring and protective "scaffolding" protein in our skin).
* Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) - a chemical that the body uses to produce and store energy within the body involving the synthesis of DNA. It is a novel addition to skin firming creams. It improves microcirculation (circulation of the blood in the smallest blood vessels), which is claimed to renew and repair skin.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH SKIN FIRMING
An enormous amount of choice and confusing claims and names of active ingredients. Prices are arranged to target every market. Most products are beautifully packaged and many spend much more on the marketing than production of the product. Perfume and consistency lend appeal to most creams.
BENEFITS OF SKIN FIRMING
Easy to use and constantly evolving, meaning new formulas are developed improving delivery and variety of active ingredients.
They may not work and considerable amounts of money may be wasted. Some active ingredients cause redness or allergic reactions. Some may have been tested on animals. In China it is mandatory to test all cosmetics on animals.
