Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in Japan. Since its origination Reiki has been adapted into varying cultural traditions across the world. Reiki practitioners use a technique they call palm healing or hands-on healing by which a "universal energy" is allegedly transferred through the palms of the practitioner to a patient in order to encourage healing.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A Reiki treatment flows through the hands and is channelled by a qualified Reiki Practitioner. Reiki will move through the various chakras or energy centres of the body and will balance the ones energy flow. Treatment can consist of 40 minutes to an hour lying on a plinth or 20 minutes seated on a chair.
The Practitioner will place their hands lightly, close to or on the body and after initially balancing the chakras, or energy centres, starting with the head move over the whole body through a series of set hand positions working on specific points on the body. No massage is involved. One may expect deep relaxation, sometimes a feeling of heat, cold or tingling sensation. One may also fall asleep or doze off.
Reiki benefits all age groups. Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension. It aids better sleep, reduces blood pressure, help with headaches, Supports the immune system, helps spiritual and emotional clearing.
Clinical research has not shown Reiki to be effective as a medical treatment for any medical condition. Reiki should not be a replacement for conventional treatment of diseases such as cancer.
