Medical Micro Needling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, can help reduce or eliminate a number of skin conditions, including wrinkles and pigmentation marks; the treatment of scars (from burns, acne and surgical scars); and stretch marks.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH MICRONEEDLING
First your practitioner will cleanse and numb your skin using a local anaesthetic gel. A little hand-held device containing numerous fine needles is then rolled/pushed across your face. More anaesthetic gel can be added as and when needed, making the procedure virtually painless.
The needles create microscopic channels in the skin which encourages the dermis to produce new collagen and elastin, which generates new skin cells. This improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis.
Microneedling promises to be just as, if not more, effective than ablative treatments like chemical peels, laser resurfacing and dermabrasion; as well as non-ablative treatments like Fraxel, IPL and CO2 laser, in stimulating collagen and elastin production to thicken the skin, thereby erasing wrinkles and smoothing scars.
BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING
The result should be thicker, plumper and more youthful skin. Skincare serums and other products that are applied to the skin afterwards are also said to be significantly more effective as the opened pores mean deep absorption.
There can be redness and flaking for a number of days following the treatment and some people find it uncomfortable despite the use of numbing gel.
