Hydrotherapy Treatment

Hydrotherapy, formerly called hydropathy, is a part of medicine and alternative medicine, in particular of naturopathy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, that involves the use of water for pain relief and treatment. The term encompasses a broad range of approaches and therapeutic methods that take advantage of the physical properties of water, such as temperature and pressure, for therapeutic purposes, to stimulate blood circulation and treat the symptoms of certain diseases.
Various therapies used in the present-day hydrotherapy employ water jets, underwater massage and mineral baths (e.g. balneotherapy, Iodine-Grine therapy, Kneipp treatments, Scotch hose, Swiss shower, thalassotherapy) and/or whirlpool bath, hot Roman bath, hot tub, Jacuzzi, cold plunge and mineral bath.

Prior to commencing Hydrotherapy, each patient undergoes a specific land based assessment. Each class has a small number of patients to ensure individual attention. Hydrotherapy is suitable for both swimmers and non-swimmers. There is no requirement for your head to go underwater. Hydrotherapy is conducted in a pool and is accessible to suit all patients. Hydrotherapy sessions are conducted by chartered physiotherapists who are highly trained and experienced in hydrotherapy.

Hydrotherapy is an excellent adjunct to conventional land based Physiotherapy. There are many benefits that are added to it, Reduce Pain, Increase Range of Movement, Increase Endurance, Reduces weight bearing, Increases Cardiovascular Fitness, Improve Balance and Co-ordination, Increase Strength, Reduce Muscle Spasm, Pacing and Postural re- alignment.
