A facial refers to a treatment to improve the look, feel and condition of the skin on your face. They fall into many categories usually delineated by the substance used during the facial. This may be vitamin C, yoghurt, aromatherapy oils etc. The mechanism of a facial often involves massage but can also have a set routine. A facial treatment can include skin analysis, deep cleansing, steaming, exfoliation, extractions, massage and customised face masque.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH FACIALS
Facials usually begin with a cleanse using a product that will remove any make up. Depending on the type of facial a process of extraction may follow in which black heads and milia (white hard spots) are squeezed out or removed using tiny tools. Post extraction a product will be smeared on the face and massaged in or left to dry and harden. The facial ends with the product being removed or in some cases left on the face. A toner may be applied before sunscreen. All depends on the type and purpose of the facial.
BENEFITS OF FACIALS
The benefits of a facial are cleaner, clearer skin. Massage will help drain the lymph from the face leaving it less puffy. Pads may have been placed over the eyes that rest the eye area and relax fine lines around the eyes.
Extraction is a brutal affair and can leave the skin red and slightly bruised. It is always best to have a facial a few days before a big event to allow the effects to die down. There is a strong possibility of the face reacting to one of the substances being used in the facial.
