Derma-roller or micro-needling involves a small roller, like the ones used for painting, with multiple very fine needles protruding. The roller is roller over the face to stimulate collagen growth and breakdown surface problems such as acne scars, sun-damaged skin, wrinkles and stretch marks. The skin can emerge looking really fresh, and naturally smooth and clear.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The rolling may be done at home or by a therapist. It is often used by dermatologists for conditions such as rosacea and scarring. The micro-roller is passed over each section of skin 6 times in each direction. This is unpleasant and painful although users say it becomes much less so over time. The process leaves marks akin to sunburn that disappear after 3 to 6 days.
It is approved by dermatologists but is very painful and must be done regularly to achieve the desired results.
The pain! The procedure may not be as effective as claimed: There is controversy over its effectiveness in the world of dermatology.
