BREAST ENLARGEMENT/REDUCTION OVERVIEW
This is also known as mammoplasty the size of the breast can be increased through the use of implants. Implants are made from either saline solution or silicone gel. Since the 1990’s Silicone gel has been the preferred implant. The implant will often lift the breast upwards without requiring surgery. The size and shape of implants varies. There are three major choice of shape: conical, spherical or hemispherical.
The newer implants are generally made of silicone gel. “silicone-gel bleed” and unwanted movement and migration of the implant have reduced with these newer designs.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Breast augmentation relies heavily on early consultation and discussion around the size shape and desired result of the procedure. The consolation will also involve payment plans and financial information. The risks will be laid out and a consent form will need to be signed. Pre surgery photographs are often taken at this time.
The incision and implantation marks will be drawn on the body surgery will normally take about 1 ½ hours and require at least one nights observation in a hospital.
Breast augmentation enlarges small breast or restores then to a pre-pregnancy/weight loss shape. Assymmetrical breasts are aligned through this type of surgery.
Capsular capture is an auto immune response by the body that sees the implant as a foreign body and encircles it trying to isolate it from the rest of the body. This causes a misshapen breast and further surgery is required to remove it.
