Bellafill is one of a number of facial fillers that is FDA-approved. Its unique selling proposition is that it is a "permanent filler" that lasts years and therefore represents good This collagen-based filler is used to target a reduction in the appearance of smile lines (naso-labial lines) and also for reducing the appearance of moderate to severe acne scars on the cheeks.
What to expect
The injection immediately adds volume below the surface of the skin and its is said to last years (the manufacturers claim it often lasts 5 years) rather than months in the case of hyaluronic acid fillers. The substance is a reformulation of a filler called Artefill. It is made up of cow collagen, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, and a tiny amount of lidocaine to ease any injection discomfort. Your practitioner will usually give you a patch test in your arm about a month before you have the treatment, in order to make sure you are not one of the rare few who is allergic to cow collagen.
Beware as this filler is not reversible whereas hyaluronic acid-based fillers tend to be (with an injection of hyaluronidase which dissolves the gel). You can experience lumps and bumps, redness and inflammation, after the treatment, but these usually subside within 1-7 days.
