Sclerotherapy is an established treatment of varicose veins and thread/spider veins. It involves using an ultrasound; the injection of a saline solution; or the use of a laser to shrink veins. Veins can become blocked due to damaged valves that prevent blood reflux. The aim is to break down the vein and allow it to be flushed away by the body over time. It is both effective and quick - the average session taking about ten minutes.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Usually a medical history followed by a mapping of the veins that are in need of treatment. Then the veins are injected with a solution, or occasionally with larger veins - a foam. If a laser or ultrasound is being used, the device targets the individual veins. You will be encouraged to walk after the treatment.
A very established and tested treatment for spider/thread/varicose veins. Downtime is at a minimum. Unsightly veins do not reappear in the treated area.
Often two treatments may be necessary.
